Phonics and early reading is key to a child’s academic success. We teach phonics at the same time we teach letters, to our first year students. Once children know the sounds the letters make, they can learn to blend them and follow simple vowel rules to begin reading. While some of reading is a developmental stage we have to wait for in some students, much of it is having the proper knowledge to take those first steps. Many of our students are reading words at the end of the first year, and most read simple sentences before kindergarten.
